Museo Presents a Rare Photographic Documentation of Penitents, “Soul Feeders”, for their Summer Exhibit

Denver, Colorado – June 7, 2017 – Museo de las Americas announces their summer exhibition, Penitents: World End Rituals of Faith, with international acclaimed photographer, Guy Veloso.  The exhibition will run from June 22 – September 16, 2017.  The opening reception will be held at Museo de las Americas at 861 Santa Fe Drive on Thursday, June 22 from 6 – 9 pm.

“Penitents,” also known as “Soul Feeders,” or “Brothers of Soul” are secret secular groups that during certain times of the year, go out into the night to pray for the “suffering spirits,” usually covering their faces with shrouds or hoods, and in some dramatic cases, practicing self-flagellation.

About Museo

Museo de las Americas educates our community about the diversity of Latino Americano art and culture from ancient to contemporary through innovative exhibitions and programs. With the Latino population growing exponentially in Denver and wider communities, Museo plays an important role in building pride in the Latino community’s heritage and promoting understanding among cultures. Other history and art museums in Denver cannot focus on one segment of the community in a sustained or comprehensive manner.  Museo was created to fill this important niche in the cultural milieu.
